A small island of 267 km² in area, Adams Island (at image centre) is one of the largest of the numerous small islands that lie within the many fjord-like channels that cut into the northern coastline of Baffin Island. The island is situated immediately south from Dexterity Island (135 km²) and southeast from the narrow Bergeson Island. To the south extend the deep channels of the Tromso and Dexterity fiords.

The eastern and western halves of Adams Island are split by a body of water known as the Ratcliffe Arm. Coastlines slope sharply on both sides of the island to the mountainous interior, reaching heights of over 800 m.
