Located off the far eastern regions of the Siberian Arctic coast, the Medvezh'i Islands are a collection of several small islands situated adjacent to the broad bulge of the extensive Kolyma Plain (visible at botom-left). In this image, captured in early June, the waters of the East Siberian Sea are still tightly frozen locking the islands in ice. At the bottom of the image is the mouth of the Kolyma River — one of eastern Siberia's largest river systems.
