Situated in the northeastern regions of the Chagos Archipelago, 19 km northeast from the Salomon Islands and 217 km directly northwards from Diego Garcia, Blenheim Reef forms a largely submerged, atoll-like, reef formation of around 30 km² in area. The reef — which rises sharply from the sea floor — measures 11 km in length and 4 km in width, with its eastern side being marked by a prominent algal ridge.

Three sand and coral rubble cays (North, East and Middle cay) are said to be located on the eastern side of Blenheim Reef, although none are evident in the above image.
