Adak

At 725 km² in area, Adak is the largest island of the Aleutian Island's centrally located Andreanof group. The island is located 14 km east from Kanaga — from which it is separated by the Adak Strait; immediately off the eastern coast is the smaller island of Kagalaska. Adak measures 48 km in length and averages 32 km across, rising to height of 1,189 m in the north at Mt. Moffett (shown in the above image).
Topography on Adak is generally steep with few areas of flat land — in many places the high upland areas slope down to precipitous sea cliffs of over 750 m in height. The landscape is tundra-like — being vegetated with grasses, legumes, lichens and thick mosses. Hundreds of small lakes and fast-flowing streams dot the landscape.
