Amlia Island is located near the eastern end of the Andreanof Islands group, lying between the islands of Atka (less than 2 km off its western tip, across the Amlia Pass) and the island of Seguam (29 km to the northeast, across the Seguam Pass).

Amlia is quite large, at 445 km² in area, although is uninhabited. It's form is highly elonagate (orientated east to west), measuring 74 km in length and from just a few hundred meters (in the east) to 8 km (across the centre) in width. The island reaches a height of 639 m.
