Carlisle Island, a member of the Islands of Four Mountains group, is located 3 km across the Carlisle Pass from the northwestern end of Chuginadak (visible at the bottom-right of the above image) and 9 km north-northeast from Herbert Island.

The island has a diameter of 7 km and is dominated by the conical stratovolcano of the same name: the entire island is essentially conical in profile, with the steep slopes of the Carlisle Volcano rising to a height of 1,610 m above sea level.
