Chuginadak, located 40 km west from Umnak, is the largest member of the Islands of Four Mountains Group at 167 km² in area. Its immediate neighbours include Carlisle Island, 2 km off the northwest coast, Herbert Island, 5 km of the southwest, and Kagamil, 6 km off the northeast coast.
The 23 km long island is dominated by the conical-shaped bulk of the 1,730 m high Mt. Cleveland (the tallest peak of the Four Mountains Group). The mountain is a stratovolcano that is joined to the lower, eastern half of the twin-lobed island by a low-lying plain. (The eastern half of the island is at top right in this image. At top-left across the 3 km-wide Carlisle Pass is Carlisle Island.) Mt. Cleveland is one of the most active volcanoes to be found in the Aleutian Islands.
