Aranuka

Aranuka is a small atoll located 9 km southeast from Kuria and 25 km southwest from Abemama. The triangular-shaped atoll consists of two unusually large islands — one occupying the base of the triangle (Buariki) and the other the apex (Takaeang) — with a combined area of 15.5 km². The two islands are connected by an extensive series of shifting sandbanks on the northern side (right in the image). A submerged reef crest, associated reef flats and a single broad pass form the opposite side of the atoll.
