Kuria

Kuria, Gilbert Islands

Located in the North Gilbert Islands, 12 km northwest from Aranuka, Kuria consists of two islands (12.7 km²) and an extensive shallow water platform that extends to the northeast and southwest. The two islands of Buariki (the largest, on the southeast) and Oneeke (in the northwest) are separated by a narrow channel that is more discernible in the high-resolution version of this image. The two islands are surrounded by a common fringing reef — that is broadest on the eastern side — that extends for around 9 km in length (southeast to northwest), varying from 50 m to 4 km in width.
