At 1,100 km², Beringa is the largest of the Komandor Islands, measuring 91 km in length and between 15 and 20 km in width. It is located 175 km off the coast of eastern Kamchatka and 49 km west of its neighbouring island of Mednyy. Beringa is the location of the groups only settlement, Nikolskoye

The nothern regions of the island are lower than those of the south, consisting of low hills and rolling plains. In the south are steep mountains that rise to their highest elevation of 755 m at Mt. Steller — the bare slopes of the high southern regions contast sharply with the greener areas of the north in the above image. Also clearly visible in the image is Sarannoe Lake — scene of Sockeye salmon spawning from the middle of July to the middle of September. The largest of the Komandor's minor islets are located offshore from Beringa: Toporkov (just visible in the image) is located 4 km to the west and Aryi Kamen 9 km also to the west.

Northern fur seals (Callorhinus ursinus) exist in large rookeries at Cape Severnyi and Cape Severo-Zapadnyi (the north and northwestern tips of the island, respectively).
