Alamagan

Located 29 km north of Guguan and 48 km south of Pagan, Alamagan like all the islands of the north is a volcanic peak emerging abruptly from the ocean floor. The island, with an area of 11 km², is circular in shape measuring up to 3 km across. The interior has steep slopes cut by deep ravines; the west contains grasslands, with much of the southeast being composed of bare lava flows. The summit of the Alamagan volcano rises to a height of 744 m and contains a summit-crater of 350 m in depth. The extensive basaltic-andesite lava flow that has extended the northern coast of the island, is clearly visible in this low-resolution image.
Situated southeast of Alamagan are the Zealandia Banks — a shallow water platform located in 20-30 m of water.
