The island of Rota is the southernmost of the Mariana Islands that comprise the CNMI — only the US-controlled island of Guam is farther south. The island is located 58 km northeast from Guam and 90 km southwest from Tinian.
At 85 km² in area, the island measures 19 km in length (orientated northeast to southwest) with a maximum width of 8 km, rising to a height 496 m above sea level at Mt. Manira in the south (cloud-covered in the above image).
