Isolated in the far southwestern regions of the Paracel Islands group, Triton Island lies 56 km southwest from Discovery Reef and 247 km northwest from the central Vietnam coast at Da Nang — the closest mainland Asian landfall to the Paracels. The island is also the southernmost feature of the Paracel Islands group.
Triton Island is a sparsely-vegetated sand cay, measuring around 1.5 km in length, situated upon an oval-shaped reef platform that rises very steeply from the sea floor.
