Duchateau Islands

Duchateau Islands, Papua New Guinea

The Duchateau Islands of the Louisiade Archipelago are a small group of three low-lying islands located on the southwestern corner of the Vanatinai barrier reef; they are located 5 km southeast from the Jomard Islands and immediately northeast from the Montemont Islands. In the above false color image (with vegetation cover in greyscale) the Duchateau Islands comprise the two reefs on the right side of the image; the Montemont Islands are the three smaller islands on the left. In the large size image, the Jomard Islands are also visible.

The three islands are generally low-lying, comprising Pana Bobai Ana (the largest island, on the west), and the two smaller islands of Pana Rura Wara and Kukuluba, located on the northern side a reef-fringed lagoon.
