The Lusancay Islands and Reefs are located to the west of the Trobriand Islands (visible at right side of the image) and north of the D'Entrecasteaux Islands. Together with the Star Reefs at their western margin they encompass a vast area of shallow waters, reefs and cays measuring around 100 km east to west and a similar distance north to south. The Lusancay reefs lie on the shallow bank formation known as the Trobriand Platform.
