Lusancay Islands & Reefs

Lusancay Reefs, Papua New Guinea

The Lusancay Islands and Reefs are located to the west of the Trobriand Islands (visible at right side of the image) and north of the D'Entrecasteaux Islands.

Together with the Star Reefs at their western margin the Lusancay Reefs encompass a vast area of shallow waters, emergent and submerged reefs and cays extending over a region measuring around 100 km from east to west and a similar distance from north to south. The Lusancay reefs lie on the large carbonate bank formation known as the Trobriand Platform.
