Arutua — one of the atolls of the Îles Pallisier grouping — is located in the North West Group of the archipelago, situated 40 km southeast from Rangiroa. The atoll is almost circular in shape with a diameter of 29 km and with an extensive lagoon covering around 516 km². The 57 tiny islets that are located around the reef rim have a combined area of 1.5 km².
