Marotiri (formerly known as the Îlots de Bass) is the most southeasterly of all the Tubuai Islands, lying 80 km southeast from Rapa. Not strictly an island, but rather a collection of steeply emergent peaks and rocky outcrops, they are the youngest members of the Tubuai chain of seamounts to break the surface.
There are four main islets: Northern Rock (0.58 ha), Central Rock (0.18 ha), Southern Rock (2.24 ha) and Western ROck (1.31 ha).
